Seismic Activity in Western Tottori Prefecture
*Additionally, following the M7.3 (tentative data) event, microearthquake activity began in an area 25 km WSW of the aftershock zone, and on October 8th at 1:17 p.m. there was an M5.5 event. As of November 6th, there had been 20 M3.0 or greater events in the same area since then, and the activity is gradually diminishing. This activity is distributed in a 15 km zone in a NNW-SSE direction. Additionally, microearthquake activity also began in an area 30 km ENE of the M7.3 (tentative data) event's aftershock zone, including a maximal M3.0 event, and that activity is also gradually diminishing. It is believed that the activity described above, and all activity in the vicinity of the aftershock zone, was triggered by the M7.3 (tentative data) event.
*GPS observation stations near the aftershock zone recorded slight crustal movements continuing for about four days in the same direction as the deformations accompanying the main event.
*The current incidence of M3.0 and greater events is 2-3 per day, but it is estimated that there will still be about two per day at the end of November.
